Police in Uttar Pradesh's eastern region have lodged a criminal complaint against four persons, including a joint director of education and the district inspector of schools, on a complaint filed regarding the disappearance of official documents, officials said on Sunday.
The case was lodged at Revti police station in Ballia district on Friday on the orders of the Allahabad High Court on a petition by Devendra Kumar Singh, a retired Class-IV staffer of Langtu Baba Intermediate College.
Station Officer Prashant Kumar Chaudhari verified that the case had been filed under sections 316(4) and 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to criminal breach of trust by public servants and persons holding property in trust.
Those accused are Dinesh Pratap Singh, Joint Director of Education, Azamgarh Division; Ballia District School Inspector Devendra Kumar Gupta; Government Inter College, Sidhauli, Principal Om Prakash Yadav; and a nameless clerk.
The complaint is regarding the disappearance of the original service register of another retired Class-IV employee, Ramkrishna Kumar Singh. The police probe initiated after the 29 May order by the court, and attempts are being made to collect evidence, officials said.
Bairia Circle Officer Mohammad Fahim Qureshi stated this was not the first such case. "This is not the first case where missing records at the secondary education department have resulted in legal action," he added.
In a comparable case last February, a complaint filed by the present District School Inspector Devendra Kumar Gupta resulted in charges under section 316(5) BNS against former district school inspector Ramesh Singh and four other officials, including his assistant and clerk staff.
That case is still ongoing.
The police say they are chasing all leads and intend to bring to justice those accountable.
