After a six-hour ordeal in freezing temperatures, a 13-member rescue team trekked 20 kilometers.

In a recent incident in Uttarakhand, 24-year-old Vijay Danu fell into a 330-foot gorge while on a trek near the Pindari glacier. Danu, who is from the village of Khati, was supervising workers fixing the trekking route when the accident happened.

A rescue team of 13 people worked for six hours to save him. They had to trek 20 km to reach the spot, which was nearly 12,000 feet above sea level. The incident occurred around 7 pm near Jwarpani, about 7 km from the Pindari glacier.

The workers with Danu immediately informed the Kapkot police, who launched the rescue operation.

The rescue team included members from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), medical support, fire department, and police. They drove to Khati village before starting their difficult 20 km trek.

Rajender Rawat, one of the team members, said, "We knew the risks, but we also knew someone's life depended on us." Despite battling freezing cold winds and tough terrain, the team managed to rescue Danu, who had serious injuries to his leg and head.

He also started to suffer from hypothermia after being trapped for six hours.

The team had to carry Danu back to Khati village on foot. Dr. Manish Gururani, who led the medical support, said that the journey was full of challenges, but the desire to save Danu kept them going.

By morning, the team reached Khati, where Danu was given initial treatment before being taken to the Kapkot Community Health Centre.

Dr. Brijesh Kishore Ghatiyal, in charge of the hospital, said Danu survived despite serious injuries, including partial paralysis and head trauma. He was then referred to another hospital for further treatment.

Danu’s brother Kailash expressed gratitude, saying, "We thought we had lost him. What the police, villagers, and medical team did for us is beyond words. They gave us back our brother."

Shikha Suyal, the District disaster management officer, praised the rescue team for their efforts in saving Danu in such harsh conditions.
