A cloudburst was reported near Mukh village, close to Nandprayag Ghat in Chamoli district on Tuesday, officials from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) confirmed. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

An SDRF team has been sent to the spot to assess the situation and provide assistance if needed.

This comes following the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall alert for the state for the next four days. Districts including Uttarkashi, Tehri, Bageshwar, Dehradun, and Rudraprayag are likely to receive significant rainfall.

Adding to the concerns, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) also issued a high-alert landslide warning for Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli districts. The alert, issued on Sunday, highlighted possible landslides on July 7 and 8 in several vulnerable subdivisions, including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Ukhimath, Ghansali, Narendra Nagar, Dhanaulti, Dunda, and Chinyalisaur.

In another development, a bridge at Ojri on the national highway to Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district was washed away because of relentless rainfall on Monday, disrupting traffic and connectivity in the region.

Meanwhile, heavy rains in Rudraprayag and nearby areas caused a surge in the Alaknanda River. However, officials confirmed that the river is still flowing below the danger mark.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami carried out an aerial survey on Sunday to review the damage along the Silai Band and Ojri Band stretches of the Yamunotri highway. Recent heavy rains have severely damaged parts of the route, posing fresh challenges for pilgrims and residents alike.
