Due to ongoing bad weather conditions, the yatra to Mata Vaishno Devi remains suspended for the eighth consecutive day on Tuesday, officials said.
The yatra was suspended on August 26, hours before 36 pilgrims lost their lives in a tragic landslide accident in Adhkuwari en route to Reasi.
Authorities have said the decision to suspend the yatra on Tuesday was taken as a precaution amid continuous rainfall, landslides, and flash floods in the region.
While the authorities are continuing the restoration work on the tracks, it is highly unlikely that there will be a resumption of services anytime soon.
On August 27, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi yatra was suspended due to a landslide that killed 36 people and heavy rainfall.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha ordered the constitution of a high-level three-member committee to investigate the causes of the landslide.
Jammu and Kashmir continues to face massive destruction due to heavy rains and rain-induced landslides and flash floods, resulting in losses worth billions.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the flood-affected regions of Jammu while reviewing the situation in a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan, Jammu.
He was accompanied by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma. Following the meeting, Shah conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Jammu.
He also inspected the condition of the 4th Tawi Bridge, part of which was washed away during the floods caused by incessant heavy rainfall. He also announced a Central assistance package of Rs 209 crore to Jammu and Kashmir for relief and restoration work.
