Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) held its first general body meeting in Thiruvanmiyur, Tamil Nadu, on Friday, marking the completion of its first year. During the meeting, TVK adopted a 17-point resolution that addressed several key political and social issues.
One of the major resolutions was TVK’s strong opposition to the Centre’s Waqf Amendment Bill. The party argued that the bill would strip minorities of their rights. The party also expressed its discontent with the Centre’s three-language policy. TVK reaffirmed its support for a two-language system, criticising the imposition of a three-language policy.
The party also condemned the proposed delimitation exercise. TVK stated that the current number of 543 parliamentary seats must remain unchanged to prevent South Indian states from losing representation. The party accused the Centre of consolidating too much power and undermining federalism. It called for more decentralisation to protect state autonomy.

TVK also launched a scathing attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). The party alleged that law and order in Tamil Nadu had worsened under the DMK’s rule. It demanded a public apology from the state government for its failure to maintain security.
The party called for a transparent investigation into a multi-thousand-crore scam involving Tasmac. TVK suggested that the DMK and BJP were secret allies, raising doubts about a fair investigation.
In terms of women’s safety, TVK demanded the establishment of special fast-track courts to handle sexual crimes. It also promised to create a separate department for women’s safety if it comes to power.
The party urged the Tamil Nadu government to name its new mega convention centre after social reformer Periyar. It also called for a caste-based survey in the state, similar to the one conducted in Telangana. TVK accused the DMK of playing political games and urged concrete action on the issue.
In 2024, Vijay announced his entry into the political domain.
Earlier, on February 26, actor Vijay's party TVK completed its first anniversary. Jan Suraaj Chief Prashant Kishor attended the celebration. Kishor is an advisor to Vijay, who is aiming to displace the two Dravidian Parties in the next assembly polls.
Speaking on the occasion, Vijay said that the TVK was emerging as a political force, "We are emerging as the primary political force in Tamil Nadu politics with a firm commitment to creating history in 2026 like 1967 and 1977 without compromising ideological principles at any cost."
Addressing the public at the event in Chennai, Vijay said that there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics.
"This is politics at a different level because we don't know when someone will support, someone will oppose. We can't predict that, and that's why it has been said there is no permanent friend or enemy," Vijay said.
Vijay, speaking on the recent controversy on the three language policy, said that the state and the centre are fighting like Kindergarten students.
"Funds to education have been stopped for the State Government. This is like LKG-UKG students fight. Their responsibility is to give, state responsibility is to get that is our rights. Amid these big problems, two (BJP and DMK) are playing with Hastag," Vijay said.
