Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the ruling party is obsessed with targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Warring remarked, “Is there any agenda of the BJP that can be without targeting Rahul Gandhi? Let them keep targeting him. This means that there is one person of whom the PM is afraid.”
Responding to the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's remarks on Operation Sindoor, he said, "When the chief minister made such a statement, I felt ashamed of politicians. What do the public think about us? What do politicians talk about? I don't want to comment on these remarks. But I just want to tell you that Indian women wear their husbands' sindoor, and only their husbands give that sindoor to their wives."
On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stirred a controversy after he said that the BJP has turned "Operation Sindoor" into a joke, asking whether this is a "One nation, one husband" scheme. "Did you not see the kind of fun made of Sindoor? What is this - one nation, one husband scheme?" CM Mann said.
Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu had also hit out strongly, stating in a video message, “The country will never forgive Bhagwant Mann for his vile remarks. This isn’t comedy.”
"The statements show how cheap and vile things the Aam Aadmi Party and their Chief Minister can say. The NDA government at the Centre has defeated Pakistan, and you are not able to tolerate it. Will you say anything to show that you stand with Pakistan? The country will not forgive you for the words you used against PM Modi today," he added.
BJP leader Fatehjung Singh Bajwa called the remarks “shameful,” saying, “This is very shameful. Comedians look good on stage, but Bhagwant Mann does not understand the value of the CM's chair. What kind of joke is this? ... I think it is shameful for the CM to joke about such a thing.”
Haryana Minister Anil Vij also criticised Mann, urging him to treat national security issues with the seriousness they deserve. "The Punjab Chief Minister was a comedian before joining politics. He wants to do comedy in politics, too. Such issues should be taken seriously and should not be mocked," Vij said.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. The operation targeted terror camps and infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing over 100 terrorists from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling and attempted drone attacks along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border, to which India responded with decisive strikes on air defence systems, radar bases, and communication hubs across 11 Pakistani airbases.
After this, on May 10, an understanding on the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced.
