Restructuring organisational leadership, the BJP’s West Bengal chapter announced the names of presidents for eight organisational districts. Recently, on the occasion of the Holi festival, the BJP announced the names of the presidents for 25 organisational districts in the state, introducing 17 new faces.
According to party insiders, the remaining 10 district president appointments will follow soon, with the announcement of the state president expected thereafter.
With the state assembly elections approaching, the Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified its organisational restructuring efforts. The party has been actively revamping its leadership at the district level to strengthen its base ahead of the crucial 2026 polls.
Sources said that most of the newly appointed district presidents are closely associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). “Additionally, several experienced leaders have also been entrusted with key roles, reflecting the party’s strategy of balancing new leadership with organisational veterans,” said a BJP leader.
The earlier announcement saw 17 out of 25 districts receiving fresh leadership, reinforcing the BJP’s focus on strengthening its base before the 2026 elections while increasing the influence of the Sangh within the party.
On Tuesday, the BJP announced the new district presidents for Alipurduar, Berhampore, Diamond Harbour, Howrah Rural, Medinipur, Bishnupur, Bolpur, and Birbhum. Several districts, including Medinipur, saw significant leadership changes with new faces taking charge.
Meanwhile, speculation is growing over who will be appointed as the next Bengal BJP state president. While incumbent Sukanta Majumdar remains in the race, several other names are also being considered for the position. The party leadership is expected to finalise and announce the new state president soon, a decision that will play a crucial role in shaping the BJP’s strategy for the upcoming 2026 elections.
