A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Friday for the brutal murder of a four-year-old child in Domjur, Howrah district three days ago. Police revealed that the crime stemmed from a dispute over a football game. The suspect was apprehended after police analysed CCTV footage from the area.
The body of the 4-year-old victim, Sheikh Ayush, was discovered on Thursday in the Danspara area. Ayush had been missing since 9:30 am on Tuesday. “Upon recovery, the boy's body showed multiple stab wounds on his back and injuries to his face. Initial investigations suggested he may have been strangled to death,” said a police officer.
The police examined CCTV footage, which showed the victim walking with the suspect trailing behind him. “Based on this evidence, we arrested the minor and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime. The suspect, accompanied by his uncle, is from South 24 Parganas and had come to Howrah to learn tailoring,” said the officer.
Howrah police commissioner Praveen Kumar Tripathi stated that the murder was committed over a trivial matter. “The minor has been taken into custody and will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board,” he said.
