Jalpaiguri police arrested the minor son of a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan on Wednesday night on charges of raping a minor girl within the security force’s residential quarters in Raninagar camp.

 

The victim was allegedly confined in the quarters after being offered a spiked beverage. Authorities said that the accused, also a minor, will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

 

According to police reports, the victim had become acquainted with the accused via a social media platform two months ago. “On Tuesday, the Class XI student had gone to take an examination, informing her parents that she would spend an hour at a friend’s house afterward. However, on Wednesday night, she managed to contact her family through a friend and revealed that she had been forcibly detained inside the BSF camp in Raninagar, Jalpaiguri,” said a police officer.

 

 

Upon receiving this distressing call, the victim’s family rushed to the camp, but they alleged that BSF jawans refused to allow them entry. "Despite our repeated pleas, we were denied access. Eventually, officials from Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station intervened, conducted a search operation, and discovered my daughter confined in a room. The accused was present at the scene," stated the victim’s father.

 

Following the rescue, police arrested the accused at the location and registered a case against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

 

In her official statement, the victim recounted that the accused had requested to meet her, which led her to visit the camp.

 

"I was offered a soft drink, which I suspect was laced with an intoxicating substance. Soon after consuming it, I lost consciousness. When I regained my senses, I realised I had been raped. I immediately contacted a friend and pleaded with her to inform my family," she told investigators.

 

Authorities have conducted a medical examination of the survivor and are currently awaiting results to further substantiate the allegations. Meanwhile, an in-depth investigation is underway to uncover additional details related to the case.
