West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has been admitted to the Command Hospital in south Kolkata after complaining of chest discomfort on Monday. Medical investigations revealed a blockage in his heart and doctors are considering the possibility of bypass surgery. Sources suggest he may be shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.
According to Raj Bhavan officials, the Governor experienced mild chest pain and was taken to the Command Hospital for a routine check-up.
After receiving the news, chief minister Mamata Banerjee, along with chief secretary Manoj Pant and Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar and other senior officials, visited the Governor at the hospital before heading to Shalbani in Medinipur.
“The Governor's health is not well. I went to see him. He is undergoing treatment,” said Mamata outside the hospital.
Hospital sources confirmed that the Governor's condition is currently stable. While a final decision on his treatment plan is pending further observation, bypass surgery remains a likely option. There is also a possibility of transferring him to a private facility for the procedure, depending on medical evaluation.
Yesterday, Bose visited Murshidabad, a district that has been on edge following violent protests against the Waqf Amendment Act, which led to the deaths of three people. Despite requests from Mamata to avoid the conflict-hit area for the time being, the Governor chose to go ahead with his visit, meeting victims and assessing the situation firsthand.
Following the visit, Bose returned to Raj Bhavan after a long train journey and reported unease on Monday morning.
