Two incidents of atrocities against women have been reported from West Bengal within a span of 24 hours.
A minor girl was abducted and raped while playing outside her home in Murshidabad district’s Ranipur village.
Prior to this, a tribal girl's body was found in a pond in Sandeshkhali of state' North 24 Parganas district.
Two incidents have been reported on a single day, that is, Saturday. However, it has been learnt that investigation gained momentum on Sunday.
In Murshidabad, a minor girl was lured away by a local youth. Neighbours allegedly caught him sexually abusing the child in a nearby forest.
The child was found unconscious. She is undergoing treatment for severe injuries.
Meanwhile, the youth who has been arrested is being interrogated, said the Additional Superintendent of Police.
In Sandeshkhali, a young girl's body was found with her hands and feet tied, leading to suspicions of murder.
The incident has led to tension in the locality.
However, it is yet to be confirmed if she was sexually assaulted. The incident happened in Ghatiyara area of Kalingar Gram Panchayat, under the Nazat police station of Sandeshkhali.
Probe is underway to find whether or not the girl was sexually harassed too.
An official, reportedly, said that bricks were tied to the body to ensure that her body got drowned.
The family members of the victim are of the view that the girl was raped and then murdered.
As per sources the victim had been missing since December 4 and her family members had also lodged a missing complaint.
An official said that the body of the victim has been sent for post-mortem.
According to the mother of the victim, she went with her daughter to a nearby cowshed to give fodders to the cattle. She went back home earlier, while the daughter said that she would be coming home a little later. But she never returned home.
The superintendent of Basirhat Police District says that based on the complaints filed by the victim's family, cops have started an investigation. He assured that the culprits will be punished.
Sandeshkhali was on the boil this year after complaints of the sexual harassment of women and forceful grabbing of land by local Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates were reported.
