State government transfers 17 IAS officers in a major administrative reshuffle affecting municipal corporations and district administrations.

In a significant bureaucratic overhaul, the state government on Thursday ordered the transfer of 17 IAS officers across key administrative posts, triggering wide-ranging changes from municipal corporations to district-level administration. The reshuffle, announced by the Personnel and Administrative Reforms (P&AR) Department from Nabanna, the state secretariat, is aimed at streamlining governance and accelerating administrative efficiency.

Among the most notable changes, Niten Singhania (2013 batch) has been relieved as Chief Executive Officer of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority and appointed as Senior Special Secretary in the Home and Hill Affairs Department. He will also hold additional responsibilities as Course Director at the Satyendranath Tagore Civil Services Study Centre and Member Secretary of the Centre of Excellence in Public Management.

Sujay Sarkar (2010 batch), previously Commissioner of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, has been moved to the Department of Textiles and Sericulture as Commissioner, along with the additional charge of Managing Director of Tantuja. Replacing him in Bidhannagar is Ravi Agarwal (2017 batch), who has been promoted from his role as Additional District Magistrate of Purulia.

In another key shift, Hindol Datta (2014 batch), formerly associated with the Netaji Subhash Administrative Training Institute, has been appointed Commissioner of the Asansol Municipal Corporation.

Dr. Rajat Nanda (2013 batch) will continue as Senior Special Secretary in the P&AR Department while taking on additional roles as Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat and Director of Information in the Information and Cultural Affairs Department. Dhiman Barui (2016 batch) has been appointed Special Secretary in the Technical Education, Training, and Skill Development Department, while Priyadarshini S (2017 batch) has been moved to the Consumer Affairs Department as Special Secretary.

The reshuffle also includes extensive transfers among Additional District Magistrates (ADM) across multiple districts. Sheikh Ansar Ahmed has been shifted from Malda to Paschim Medinipur, while Prashant Raj Shukla moves from South 24 Parganas to Bankura. Suman Saurabh Mohanty has been transferred from North Dinajpur to Paschim Bardhaman, and Rajesh from South Dinajpur to Jalpaiguri.

Further changes see Lakshman Perumal R posted as ADM of Jhargram, Sinjan Shekhar as ADM of Howrah, and Archana Pandurinath Wankhede as ADM of Purba Medinipur.

Among the younger officers of the 2020 batch, Manjit Kumar Yadav has been transferred to South 24 Parganas, Saurabh Pandey to Paschim Medinipur, and Ekam J Singh to Bankura, all taking on responsibilities as Additional District Magistrates.

The latest reshuffle underscores the state government’s intent to reinforce administrative machinery across departments and districts, with a focus on improving governance and operational efficiency.
