Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday said that he is unaware of the real reason behind Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation as the Vice President of India. It is Dhankhar who can reveal what actually transpired between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added. Referring to Dhankhar always siding with the government, the Rajya Sabha's Leader of Opposition stated that he never permitted the opposition, whenever it attempted to raise a point, whether it was for farmers or the poor or on matters of foreign policy.

"I don't know all these details. He (Dhankhar) was always against the government. He must tell what happened," Kharge replied to a query if Dhankhar was coerced into resignation as he made a speech supporting farmers.

When we attempted to bring issues by issuing notices on issues related to poor, atrocities against women, dalits and downtrodden, and incidents like Hindu-Muslim clash, he didn't provide us an opportunity. It (cause of Dhankhar's resignation as Vice President) is between him and Modi. We have no information on that," he added.

In a dramatic turn of events, Dhankhar on the evening of July 21 resigned as Vice President for medical reasons, leaving political circles abuzz with speculation.

Dhankhar, in his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, indicated he was resigning with immediate effect to "prioritise health care."

To a query on replacing Karnataka Congress president, Kharge replied, "All those things cannot be said now. Will speak later." Presently, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is occupying the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president office on an extended term.

There have been voices in the state government's ruling Congress to replace him, with the argument that he is occupying two important offices.
