A sub-inspector of Rajganj police station in Jalpaiguri district was arrested on Tuesday night on the charges of raping a complainant.
The police officer Subrata Gun was arrested after the medical examination of the confirmed sexual abuse on her.
According to police, the woman lodged a complaint with the police station on Friday night and the officer was closed and transferred to the district police line from the police station.
“In her complaint, the woman in her mid-30s alleged that Gun had asked her to visit his residence to discuss her case in details. After reaching Gun’s house, he initially started discussing the woman’s complaint but suddenly pounced on her and raped the complainant,” said a police officer probing into the rape complaint.
The woman, in her statement to police, Gun not only raped her but also threatened her with dire consequences if she discloses the incident to anyone.
“Immediately after receiving the complaint, we registered a Zero FIR and transferred the case to the Jalpaiguri women police station,” said a police officer.
Zero FIR is a procedural tool allowing victims to file complaints at any police station regardless of the location of the crime.
“An investigation is going on. We are collecting evidences, both scientific and digital, which can corroborate the woman’s allegation against the officer,” said another officer working on the case.
