In what is being seen a major breakthrough in anti terror measures, Jammu and Kashmir Police have dismantled an inter-state and transnational terror module linked to the proscribed outfits Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Under what is being described as a “white-collar terror ecosystem”, the Police have also arrested two doctors from Kashmir besides several other professionals who were covertly working with this module.
The operation led to the arrest of seven key operatives and the recovery of a massive cache of arms, ammunition, and nearly three tonnes of improvised explosive device material during coordinated searches across multiple states.According to officials, the crackdown follows the discovery of Jaish-e-Mohammad posters pasted at various locations in Bunpora Nowgam, Srinagar on October 19, threatening police and security forces. A case FIR No. 162/2025 was registered at Police Station Nowgam under multiple sections of the UAPA Act, Explosive Substances Act, and Arms Act, among others, and a high-level investigation was launched.
Investigations have unearthed what officials describe as a “white-collar terror ecosystem”, a sophisticated network involving radicalised professionals and students allegedly in contact with foreign handlers operating from Pakistan and other countries.Police said the group used encrypted communication channels for coordination, indoctrination, fund transfers, and logistics. Funds were reportedly raised through professional and academic circles, disguised as social or charitable causes.
“The module was involved in identifying, radicalising, and recruiting individuals into terror ranks, besides raising funds, arranging logistics, and procuring arms, ammunition, and explosive material,” they said.The arrested individuals have been identified as Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, resident of Nowgam, Srinagar, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, resident of Nowgam, Srinagar, Maqsood Ahmad Dar alias Shahid, resident of Nowgam, Srinagar, Molvi Irfan Ahmad, Imam of a mosque in Shopian, Zameer Ahmad Ahanger alias Mutlasha, resident of Wakura, Ganderbal, Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib, resident of Koil, Pulwama and Dr. Adeel, resident of Wanpora, Kulgam.
Police sources said more individuals connected to the network have been identified and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them.
Officials said the sheer quantity of explosives points to the possibility of a major planned attack, which has now been averted.
The police said a detailed financial investigation is underway to track the flow of funds and identify both local and cross-border linkages. “All angles of funding, coordination, and supply chain are being traced and addressed expeditiously,” an official added.
Terming the bust as one of the year’s biggest counter-terror operations, the J&K Police said the success reflects the force’s “diligent efforts and unflagging determination” in dismantling terror networks operating under cover.
