Will fight like a tiger: Mamata urges calm as BJP takes lead

“There is absolutely no reason to lose heart. Only three or four rounds of counting have been completed so far; there are still 14 to 18 rounds left. You will emerge victorious after sunset—just wait and watch,” she said.

Banerjee alleged irregularities in the counting process and accused the BJP of manipulating the narrative.

With early trends in the West Bengal Assembly election results indicating a strong lead for the BJP, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday issued a video message on her X handle urging party workers not to lose heart and to remain steadfast.

At the time of her address, the BJP was leading in 194 seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was ahead in 91 seats, reflecting a significant early gap. Responding to the trends, Banerjee alleged irregularities in the counting process and accused the BJP of manipulating the narrative.

“This is a BJP ploy. In the first two or three rounds, they are displaying their own results first and ours later,” she claimed. Banerjee further alleged that counting had been halted prematurely in several constituencies. “In many places, specifically in around 100 locations, counting has been stopped after just two or three rounds,” she said.

She also accused central forces of influencing the process and alleged widespread intimidation of her party. “Atrocities are being committed against the TMC on all fronts. Our offices are being vandalised and forcibly occupied. They are claiming victory in seats where the outcome is still uncertain and are not acknowledging constituencies where we are leading,” Banerjee added, alleging that misinformation was being spread among the public.

Addressing party workers and counting agents directly, the Chief Minister sought to boost morale amid the early setback. “There is absolutely no reason to lose heart. Only three or four rounds of counting have been completed so far; there are still 14 to 18 rounds left. You will emerge victorious after sunset—just wait and watch,” she said.

Ending her message on a note of defiance, Banerjee urged supporters to remain fearless. “Let none of you be afraid. Rest assured—we will continue to fight like cubs of a tiger,” she asserted.

Counting of votes is ongoing across the state under tight security, with officials maintaining that the process is being conducted in accordance with established norms.
