Zubeen’s family, Assam must know truth behind his death: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday called for a transparent investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore, stressing that his family and the people of Assam have a right to know the full circumstances.'

 

“The sooner the truth comes out, the better in Zubeen Garg’s case, as the family needs closure,” Gandhi said after meeting the singer’s family at their Kahilipara residence in Guwahati.

 

He emphasised that it is the duty of the Assam government to “transparently investigate and tell the family exactly what happened in Singapore.”

“The family has lost Zubeen, and they only want the truth to come out,” Gandhi added.

Zubeen Garg, a celebrated singer and cultural icon of Assam, died while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19. His sudden demise has triggered widespread grief in the state, with thousands of fans and cultural groups expressing shock and demanding a detailed probe.

 

Following Garg’s death, the Assam government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Seven individuals, including members of the singer’s band and close associates, have so far been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, as part of the ongoing investigation.

 

The case has seen heightened public interest, with protests outside jails and demands for stringent action. Authorities have had to impose prohibitory orders and restrict mobile internet services in certain areas to maintain law and order.
