ISRO transponders bring safety net to fishermen in Bengal

A satellite-based transponder system developed by ISRO is now being installed in trawlers from South 24 Parganas to improve safety during deep-sea fishing. The device enables real-time communication, distress alerts and location tracking, reducing the risk of accidents, aiding rescue, and preventing inadvertent border crossings—just ahead of the crucial hilsa season.
