Apple drops AI-powered iPhone 17, Airpods and Apple Watch series

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the new iPhone 17 is “unlike anything you’ve ever seen before”.


Apple’s much anticipated annual fall event, this time called the ‘Awe Dropping’ event, kicked off with a bang in Cupertino, US, on September 9 unveiling its most-awaited iPhone 17 series of phones, smartwatch, and Airpods. 


Apple CEO Tim Cook said the new phone is “unlike anything you’ve ever seen before”. With a 6.3 inch 120Hz ProMotion display showing 3,000 nits of peak brightness and Ceramic Shield 2 for uber scratch protection, the iPhone 17 is powered by the A19 processor and a neural engine for Apple Intelligence tasks. 


The iPhone Air – Apple’s thinnest phone ever – comes with a 6.5 inch ProMotion 120Hz AMOLED display and also runs on the A19 Pro processor, which is the same SoC seen on the iPhone 17 Pro series. 


With iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone gets all 48MP cameras, which means that there are three 48MP cameras on the back for the first time and all three are Fusion 1x, 2x, 4x Telephoto 8x Telephoto. Digital Zoom is up to 40x for photos. On the front, there's 18MP Center Stage on the front, like in all other iPhone 17 models. iPhone 17 Pro also supports Dolby Vision HDR, 4K120, ProRes Log.

Cook said the new iPhone models reflect "our commitment to designing industry-leading products and experiences."

Apple Watch Series 11 includes 5G connectivity, the largest display ever, satellite connectivity, and 100 per cent recycled aluminium and titanium. Apple Watch SE is priced at $249, the Watch Series 11 is priced at $399 and the Watch Utra 3 is priced at $799.

The iPhone 17’s price starts at $799 (₹82,900), while the iPhone 17 Air starts at $999 (₹1,19,900), the iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1099 (₹1,34,900), and Pro Max at $1199 (₹1,49,900) – for the 256 GB variants in four colours. 


Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 line-up start on September 12, with availability from September 19 onwards.
