Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Thursday that the Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to Apple Inc. regarding alleged performance problems with iPhones following the iOS 18+ software update.
"The department, after examining consumer grievances, has issued a notice to Apple through the CCPA, seeking a response on the matter," Joshi said in a social media post.
The notice seeks Apple's explanation regarding reported technical issues with the software update.
The complaints have been received on the National Consumer Helpline regarding the performance issues of iPhones.
The notice marks the latest regulatory scrutiny of the technology giant's operations in India, a key growth market for smartphone manufacturers.
With the iOS 18 update, Apple aimed to provide new features and improvements, but it seems that the update has also brought some unintended problems.
Many iPhone users have experienced problems such as battery drain, overheating, and glitches after updating to iOS 18. Some users have even reported issues with CarPlay, Safari, and YouTube Music not working properly.
The CCPA's notice marks the latest effort to ensure that technology giants like Apple are held accountable for any issues with their products or services and Apple will likely need to respond to the CCPA's notice and address the concerns of Indian iPhone users.
