INDIA block legislature party leader in Jharkhand Hemant Soren today met Governor Santosh Gangwar at Raj Bhawan in Ranchi and staked claim to form a new government in the state.
The incumbent Chief Minister, along with an eight-member delegation, also handed over the letter of support of 56 MLAs to the Governor.
The governor, accepting his claim, invited him to form the government and asked him to remain acting chief minister till an alternative arrangement is made in the state.
Soren, talking to media persons after meeting the governor, said that the process of formation of a new government has been started by the INDI Alliance. “In this process, today we have resigned from our current government to the Governor. We have presented a proposal to form the next government. We will now start preparing for the next action,” he said.
He further said that the swearing-in ceremony will be organised on Thursday, November 28 at the historic Morhabadi Ground in Ranchi. However, he refused to divulge anything on the shape of the new cabinet.
Earlier, a meeting of the MLAs of the INDI Alliance was held at the Chief Minister's residence, where Soren was unanimously elected as the leader of the alliance.
It is believed that apart from Chief Minister Hemant Soren from the JMM quota, 6 other MLAs will take oath as ministers in the new Cabinet. Four MLAs from the Congress quota and one MLA from the RJD quota will take oath as ministers.
It has not been decided yet whether the CPI (ML) will join the coalition government or not, but this time some new faces may be included in the Cabinet.
Sources said that Congress president Mallkarjun Kharge, senior leader Rahul Gandhi, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav may attend the swearing-in ceremony of Hemant Soren on November 28.
