‘JMM can day-dream for one more day', says BJP’s Deo

Taking a dig at the ruling party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo said that people have ousted them for misgovernance, loot and false promises that occurred in the last 5 years and hence, JMM can day-dream for one more day.

As the countdown begins for the results of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, leaders from both the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the JMM-led Mahagathbandhan exuded confidence in their respective victories.

BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo expressed optimism, stating that ,“Our voting percentage has also increased, which gives us confidence that the NDA’s majority government will be formed in Jharkhand tomorrow evening.”

He criticised the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), accusing the party of misgovernance, corruption, and breaking promises over the past five years.

“People have ousted them for misgovernance, loot, and false promises. JMM can daydream for one more day, but the reality on the evening of November 23 will be very rude for them,” he said.

In contrast, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey responded cautiously, stating that everything would become clear within a few hours. He emphasised the party's confidence, particularly in the support from voters, especially women.

“Where will there be joy and where will there be sorrow – it is just a matter of a few hours. I won’t be outspoken, let’s wait,” said Pandey.

“We are confident, we trust our voters, we trust the women of this state who queued up and voted in large numbers. We have reasons to be happy. The outsiders who came here have now left. If they had felt even a little chance of victory, they would have stayed back and celebrated.”

Exit polls suggest a close contest, with several predicting that the NDA may replace the JMM-led alliance in power. The elections, held in two phases on November 13 and 20, saw voting for all 81 assembly seats.

According to the Chanakya Strategies exit poll, the NDA is projected to win between 45 and 50 seats, while the JMM-led alliance is expected to secure 35 to 38 seats, with others winning 3 to 5 seats.

The Peoples Pulse exit poll forecasted 44 to 53 seats for the NDA and 25 to 37 seats for the JMM-led alliance, with 5 to 9 seats going to others.

The Matrize exit poll estimated the NDA could win 42 to 47 seats, the INDIA bloc 25 to 30, and others 1 to 4 seats.

The BJP-led alliance in Jharkhand comprises the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United), and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). The JMM-led alliance includes Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).

The results for all 81 constituencies in Jharkhand, along with those for the Maharashtra Assembly elections and by-elections in several states, will be declared on November 23.
